Listen Up: Birthday Edition!

At first, I was freaked out to turn 27. TWENTY SEVEN?! Scary, I thought. But then someone posted this online and it opened my eyes…I reminded myself not to think those silly thoughts:

To honor my health on my 27th birthday today, I ran 7.2 miles. (I desperately searched for a birthday race but couldn’t find one close enough.) I went out without a plan…just turned on my watch and went. I was aiming for about 5 miles, but as I kept going, I was thinking, “Weeee! This is my birthday “happy pace!” I feel great!”. I didn’t check my pace incessantly, I just ran. Kind of like my run in Massachusetts. When I finally got back to my street and stopped, only the second time I looked at my watch, it said 7.2 miles. Which is 27 backwards! See how good at numbers I’m getting? How random.

Anyway, I’ve been listening to this song on repeat lately and I feel as though it’s fitting for today. Enjoy!

The Age of Worry by John Mayer

Close your eyes and clone yourself
Build your heart an army
To defend your innocence
While you do everything wrongDon’t be scared to walk alone
Don’t be scared to like it
There’s no time that you must be home
So sleep where darkness fallsAlive in the age of worry
Smile in the age of worry
Go wild in the age of worry
And say, “Worry, why should I care?”

Know your fight is not with them
Yours is with your time here
Dream your dreams but don’t pretend
Make friends with what you are

Give your heart then change your mind
You’re allowed to do it
‘Cause God knows it’s been done to you
And somehow you got through it

Alive in the age of worry
Rage in the age of worry
Sing out in the age of worry
And say, “Worry, why should I care?”

Rage in the age of worry
Act your age in the age of worry
And say, “Worry, get out of here!”

  1. Happy Birthday! I love the lyrics to that song, I may have to download it because I should listen to it and worry less. I’m getting better about that, though.

Great idea to run 7.2 miles on your birthday! I turn 27 in October so maybe I will do that too :) . I’m training for a half so that would be a good distance to fit in.

    • You should! Or I can burn it onto a CD and send it to you if you want! It’s great. And yes, stop worrying :) I’m excited to follow your half marathon training!
