So, I’m not running a marathon this month and the world is still turning. Imagine that! Although the consensus was that I’m not ready, I’ve still been doing a lot of running this past week. Which is good, because this is KaraRuns.com and all. And I’m not giving up; just taking it a bit more slowly.
Now that I’m in for the Philly half (the race organizers confirmed), I’m really working on making the most of my time running. Speedwork and tempo runs (and lactic acid buildup), oh my! One small little speed bump, though. I went back to my orthopedist this week to follow up on my MRI results…and apparently I have a gastroc strain! It’s not bad, but he recommended I go to physical therapy 2-3x per week. Now I just need to figure out when I can find the time (and money) for that…with my commute and work, I’m tied up from 6:50AM until 7PM every day. Yikes. I cannot keep doing this.

As far as I know, I’m still okay to run. He knows I’ve been running, and never told me to stop…but I also didn’t ask because I was afraid of what the answer would be. Ha. I’ll let the PT people tell me. He kept repeating that I would be fine and that it’s not bad at all, even after I told him I really want to be running until I’m an old lady. He seemed pretty confident that I would have plenty of running days ahead. And he also was really excited that my meniscus is intact. Fab. Good to know.
Actually, all things considered, I’ve been feeling pretty good; I’ve been adding an extra day of running and so far so good…obviously this isn’t a serious strain! I don’t feel much pain at all, but I’m looking forward to the physical therapy just to be stronger and make sure I’m as good as I can be.
I had a nice, easy 10 miles yesterday, and went to the disastrous Jets game today. The only good thing about it was that they retired Dennis Byrd’s jersey, and he gave a very moving speech:

Now, I’m hunkering down with the roomies and preparing for Hurricane Sandy. I already have the day off tomorrow! Best wishes for a safe (and dry!) week!
