My First Week in Los Angeles

I’m hopping on the bandwagon of these “currently” posts…so in the case you’re wondering about my current state of mind and what I’m loving, well, here you are:

Where I am: I’m currently in my new home-away-from-home, the business center in my apartment complex. It’s amazing for my concentration because there are literally zero distractions. (Well, minus Hulu and everything else on the internetz.) I’m extremely lucky we have this room with free wifi, because we have no TV, no internet, and absolutely no furniture in our apartment right now. Alas, this fabulous little room is my new hang out spot while Brendan and I are in apartment-limbo. But still, sometimes you just want to sit on your couch and watch Sex and the City, you know?

How I’m sweating: Speaking of how much I love sitting on my couch (?)…I’ve been really proud of myself. My first LA run was an easy 4.5 miles at 10:04 pace. It was overcast and cool and I had fun exploring. (That’s how I found the stand up paddle boarding!) Also, I immediately switched my ClassPass account from NYC to LA (sad face) so I’ve already been to Barry’s Bootcamp in West Hollywood, yoga at Exhale (both of which are also in NYC) and my apartment’s gym, where I was reminded that I’m not the best at lifting on my own. I get bored. (But I’m extremely sore so I guess I at least did it right!) I’m very excited to try some of the other LA ClassPass studios – not having a job makes it preeeeetty easy to schedule lots of classes. (Although I hope this joblessness doesn’t last long. Yikes.)

My favorite LA spot: Well, I haven’t done much exploring. But this is about 100 feet away so really, do I need to go much further?

Yeah, I'm gonna be spending a little time here.

Yeah, I’m gonna be spending a little time here.

Looking forward to: I guess this goes without saying. I really just need the truck to arrive with all our furniture and everything else we own. Sitting on the kitchen counter is getting a little old. I can’t wait to watch football with the windows open (it seriously feels like fall here!) and snuggle on the couch. With a beer. I also found a stand-up paddle boarding situation happening down the road, so I’m excited to test that out with Brendan as well!

Should I start calling it “SUP” like all the cool kids?

Watching: The City. Remember, the spinoff with Whitney from The Hills? (No? No one else watched it?) When I was on the East Coast, I couldn’t stop watching The Hills. (Yep, I have great taste in TV shows.) Now I’m in LA pretending I’m back in the city. I can’t be satisfied. (And I really want Allie and Adam to break up, I can’t even handle this anymore. Please, someone, discuss this with me.)

Listening to: Girls Chase Boys by Ingrid Michaelson. I randomly heard it on the radio while driving from New Jersey to Iowa and ended up downloading it and listening to it a least 3,429 times on my drive. It’s so catchy and makes me want to roll my shoulders and tilt my head from side to side. You know, the driving dance.

Deciding on: Which color we could potentially paint our living room and/or bedroom. I figure now is the perfect time to paint, seeing as our apartment is empty and I don’t have the busiest schedule. I wanted to do an accent wall, but the walls are currently a tan-ish color, so I’m not sure what accent color would complement the current walls.  HELP ME.

Lots of stuff.

Stay tuned for photos of an apartment with actual things inside.

How about you? Did you watch The City? Have some wall color recommendations? Or ideas for fun stuff to do in LA? Fill me in!

That pool looks amazing and I don’t blame you to hang out there a lot! Plus it’s good that you have some internet access in teh business center while you guys are roughing it without TV, internet, or even furniture. I hope your moving truck gets there soon, and I agree- a nice run is the best way to see a new city :)

That’s awesome that you could easily change your class pass! I have a ton of great lifting workouts pinned on my Pinterest board that I love doing solo at the gym!
