I’m having one of those months.
All of a sudden, everything started breaking at work and in my personal life. LITERALLY, breaking. A window, our heater, the glass on my cell phone (ugh), both my work and personal computers. Plus, the yoga studio I work at was sold so there’s a lot of change there as well. None of this is a big deal AT ALL, I know, but when it all happened at once I was struggling to not be constantly frustrated. For whatever reason, bouncing back was a struggle for me this month. Instead of dwelling on it, I’m focusing on the happy things that brighten my day…even the tiniest ones…and figured I’d share!
7 things I’m loving right now:
Indulgent weekends + family weddings. I mean, duh. But let me explain. At the beginning of this month I went to New York for a weekend for a wedding (before you yell at me for not telling anyone, New York and New Jersey friends, I was only there from Friday afternoon until Monday morning and spent my time on Long Island with family).
Brendan’s cousin got married so I represented our family of two (he had a football game) and it was the most fun I’ve had in a long time!
I RAN 10 MILES! It was my longest run since July 15th, 2015. (I remember it well.) I went to the UCLA game that afternoon so I started early. I was listening to a podcast at the beginning of my run and was running upper 1o/low 11-minute miles, starting easy just in case. At mile 3 I turned on the music and it was a game changer, turning my run into an almost perfect progression run. I was also running late (no pun intended LOLOLOL) and when I realized my friend was picking me up in 30 minutes and I was still running, I practically started sprinting. I finished in the mid-9s. (I’d screenshot the splits but I haven’t synced my Garmin because my personal computer is still broken, wahhhh.)
I have a race this weekend. Rock ‘n’ Roll Los Angeles on Sunday, Oct. 30th, if you’re not caught up. Rock ‘n’ Roll always puts on a great raceday experience and I’m pumped to soak it all up. The course is new this year, although I’m not so thrilled that it now starts at 6:45AM. It’s supposed to rain and I kind of hope it does because I miss that running-in-the-rain feeling.
The library. I got library card for the first time in probably 15 years! It’s like I’m 11 years old again. SO MANY OPTIONS. Minimalist me (who rarely reads the same book twice) is rejoicing. Plus, I love walking to the library through my beautiful little neighborhood that currently feels and looks a teensy bit like fall, with leaves under my feet and crisp air that requires me to wear a sweatshirt. (Not a feeling you get in SoCal often.)
Gillian Flynn. See aforementioned library post. I’ve read two of her books (Gone Girl and Sharp Objects) in one week. I actually could NOT put them down and Brendan now groans when I come back with a new book because it means I’ll be completely distracted until I finish. I CAN’T HELP IT! She’s also a University of Kansas graduate so I extra love her. Her writing is so refreshing and unique and her descriptions are one-of-a-kind.
Coconut oil. I had a random conversation with someone about the toxins in face and makeup products and it freaked me out. I’m also getting eye wrinkles at a rapid rate, despite my religious face care routine and intense obsession with drinking water. I started using coconut oil on my face and body and my skin feels so soft. No verdict on the wrinkles yet but I’ll update you accordingly.
My new Contigo coffee mug. Gone are the days of having coffee provided to me at my office. Sigh. Over the past two years I’ve been using this mug that Brendan got for free from some laundry company (random) and it worked fine but leaked and the paint was peeling off and little flecks of it stuck to my hands and face. I actually put up with that for longer than I’d like to admit. Nowwww I have this one that I can literally throw in a bag, full of coffee, and it will tip over and not leak. Hallelujah.
