IF THAT TITLE DOESN’T MAKE YOU WANT TO READ THIS THEN I DON’T KNOW WHAT WILL. Because sometimes it’s easier to write out a bunch of random thoughts instead of trying to do what you’re supposed to do by writing out a well thought out essay, here are the things going on in my head. That was a really long sentence. Anywhoodles…(you guys seem to like that word. I don’t even know where I got it from but I’ll keep using it. I just googled it and apparently some girl named Emily came up with it. Thanks Emily, I guess.… View Post

]]>I’m pretty terrible at my weekly recap posts, huh? I haven’t done one in weeks. Yikes. Sorry to stress you out like that. I have everything written out in my fancy little calendar, so maybe someday I’ll post them here… I JUST HAVE NO TIME FOR ANYTHING. Everything is in shambles. Well, not really. But unless you live, work, or train with me, I probably haven’t seen you in weeks. Or months. (Even if you live with me, it’s still a fairly rare occasion). I promise that on July 29th (which, ahem, also happens to be my birthday), I’ll be 100%… View Post

]]>Tomorrow should be my longest bike ride ever – 56 miles. I’ve been itching to crack 50 for awhile now and have been so excited about this ride (and meeting Maggie)! I signed up last week to participate in the Rev3 Quassy preview ride, where they take you along the raceday course so you know what to expect and can feel more prepared. It’s more official than just a bunch of people meeting to ride; coaches and mechanics are there, plus you get a number! AND FREE FOOD AT THE END. (That sold me, as you can imagine.) Evidently they’ll also… View Post

]]>Bike buying is a tricky thing. The only bike I’ve ever bought is a bright blue mountain bike from Walmart. And by “I”, I mean my parents. (Thanks Mom and Dad!) My Trek hybrid (which is amazing) was a birthday gift from Brendan. Am I lucky or what? Needless to say, I’m certainly no authority on purchasing a road bike or on triathlons in general. Until a few weeks ago, I had never even ridden a road bike outside. Yikes. But, as you know, I signed up for a challenge and so far a challenge this experience has been. When… View Post

]]>Until the past few months, I was never much of an outdoor cyclist. On a nice day, I might go for a leisurely bike ride, or ride in town to run an errand. (Oh, how things have changed!) My Dad, however, has loved cycling for years. Occasionally I would join him on a ride along the trails in our hometown, but more often he would ride alongside me as I ran. When we did bike together, I learned a lot of lessons! Today, my Dad is here as a guest poster to share his experiences completing a bike ride across… View Post

]]>When life gives you lemons in the form of a walking boot, you have two options: 1. Be grumpy everyday and scowl at people who walk closely behind you because you feel like they’re rushing you and your boot. 2. Make lemonade and become a badass cyclist. And swimmer. Over the past week I’ve chosen both one and two. However, I’m finally realizing I need to take this lemon that’s been handed to me and make a delicious cocktail. I’ve been super cranky the past few days. Let’s be honest…not running sucks. But I can bike and I can swim.… View Post

]]>After three full days of rest (TORTURE) I think I’m finally getting back to normal. I was able to get back on the bike trainer tonight and actually breathe. And I think I’ve only sneezed twice today which is a huge improvement from yesterday’s 27 sneezes. I’ve stepped down off the “OMG I’VE MISSED THREE DAYS OF WORKOUTS AND IT’S ONLY MY THIRD WEEK OF TRAINING” ledge thanks to some level-headed friends who reminded me that rest will do me better than overexerting myself when I’m not feeling so hot. Hooray for rest. Does a body good. (Or is that… View Post

]]>Would you hate me if this blog changed from running chit-chat to serious, terrified discussions about running and triathlons and swimming and biking ? Well, let’s be honest, it won’t include serious discussions. At least not all the time. I’m too ADD and silly for that. But, I’m really starting to love this triathlon training thing. It’s possible I’m becoming a runner-swimmer-biker, but it’s too early too tell. I’m not ready to totally cheat on running yet. (Running, you will ALWAYS, always be my first sweaty love.) Besides, I have that whole Ragnar thing going on. Who has time to swim when… View Post
