An old colleague of mine recently passed away from cancer. I was so taken aback when I learned he passed away. I was certain he’d be fine after treatment. I never realized how bad it was. I’ve been so overwhelmed with emotion. Rage, mostly. I’m so angry that cancer still steals lives. After finding out, I cried for days. I haven’t seen him since I worked for the Jets, but always kept in touch through his weekly “Go Jets!” emails during football season and his fun Facebook posts…and of course, I could always expect an e-card on my birthday. But still,… View Post

Happy rainy Tuesday! Anyone else stuck inside (like me) and looking for a workout to do at home? Here are some of my favorites! Even though I hate math and numbers, let’s chat about them today. (Don’t worry, you just have to read. No math involved.) Not everybody was as lucky as I was this week. There are way too many people in New York and New Jersey (among other places) who have lost EVERYTHING. It will take years to rebuild. It’s so heartbreaking. I feel an overwhelming desire to do whatever I can to help. I’ve collected some clothes and am trying to find somewhere to donate food and time. I just keep hearing that they need more money – which I don’t have much of! So, this is what Lora and I came up with to do our own little part… Lora, who blogs… View Post

I’ve been to the West Coast more times in the past month than I have in my entire life. (Unless you count Hawaii, I guess.) Anyway, I spent my weekend in San Francisco cheering on participants in the Nike Women’s Marathon. For work. Running and cheering and guys in tuxes? Yes, thank you. If you don’t know, all finishers of NWM get a Tiffany’s necklace handed to them on a silver platter by these lovely gentlemen. Yes, I’m serious. I’m tempted to sign up for this race next year…if it weren’t so close to Ironman Lake Placid, I would 100%… View Post

Shoe Collection http://kararuns.com/2011/11/16/shoe-collection/ Wed, 16 Nov 2011 14:37:57 +0000 http://kararuns.wordpress.com/?p=54

I came across this article today about a girl who collects running shoes to send to Ethiopia, a place that produces many outstanding marathoners like some of the top finishers in the NYC Marathon this year.  (5 minute miles!? I can’t even run a single mile in 5 minutes, let alone all 26.2. Amazingly impressive!) So I visited the website Shoes for Sheba to learn more about how to donate gently used shoes for women runners in Ethiopia. I think it is such an amazing idea; promoting healthy living and finding an activity that makes you insanely happy is something… View Post
