I’m Published + A Successful Tempo Run

What a week! Two major-for-me things happened:

#1:

my daily muse email articleThat’s an email newsletter. From one of my favorite websitesย for fresh, fun career advice. With an article I wrote as the feature. (Click the photo above to read.)

is this real life

I’ve written as a ghost writer for a few other websites, but I’m pretty sure this is the first time my byline has been on an actual website. (And in their daily newsletter, nonetheless!) I’m over the moon happy. As I’ve mentioned in the past, I can remember wanting to be a writer as young as age 7. Not that I’m a “writer” now, but I’m finally taking some baby steps.

here

I might be 7 here? But who knows. I’m bad with ages.

Until recently, I never thought my blogging experience could be so influential in getting me there. Plus, I always figured my degree in sports management wouldn’t afford me any writing opportunities. I thought that editors would be like…PSHHH girl, go take your non-writing degree elsewhere. But here I am. Many thanks to The Muse for this opportunity! (Check the website out, I bet you’ll love it.)

To sum up: Chase those crazy dreams, don’t make excuses, and as Nike instructs us, Just Do It.

This is my excitement level.

Apparently I like gifs today. But really, who doesn’t?

#2:

My tempo run on Wednesday was hugely confidence-boosting. I totally didn’t follow the rules – it was supposed to be a mile warmup, 3×1 mile at 9:01, and a mile cooldown – but it ended up like this:

april 2 tempo splits

Just a tad faster than 9:01. I know, I know. I need to trust the plan. But COME ON! I was feeling good. Is that bad? I saw the first mile click over to 8:33 and was really surprised so I pulled back a little bit. Then when I saw the 8:50 I got nervous about positive splitting and/or going OVER 9:01, so I tried my best to hold on. And even though it wasn’t too consistent, I finished with a solid 8:40.

Pretty much a perfect night for running.

Not my best photography. But pretty much a perfect night for running.

When I went to work that morning it was raining, so I had been planning to do this run on the treadmill. When I left, it was gorgeous outside! (FINALLY, amiright?) So, at the last minute, I opted to test my skill for holding tempo paces on my own. I mean, I guess I failed at holding the right paces. But I haven’t been too comfortable in the 8s in awhile so I’m thrilled.

Aaaannnnd one more to close it out:

This thrilled.

I did a Barry’s Bootcamp class Thursday night, much needed yoga tonight, and now I’m pretty much just floating along on a sweat-induced high. I have 11 miles on tap for this weekend so let’s hope I stay this enthusiastic.

What are you up to this weekend?ย Tell me one great thing about your week!

Congrats on being published! I know the feeling of wanting to do something you feel like you’re not qualified for and being worried that everyone’s gonna suddenly jump out and call you a fraud ๐Ÿ˜•
But doesn’t it feel awesome when life proves your wrong?!? ๐Ÿ˜€
