Thanks so much for visiting Kara Runs!
I’ve been a runner since high school where I ran track and cross country (state champs! woo!). I’ve been running ever since. I’m originally from Iowa City, IA:

Typical scene in Iowa. Tractor tire photo shoot.
Since graduating from the University of Kansas…

Rock Chalk Jayhawk!
…I left the Midwest to move to NJ. I’ve worked with two NFL teams. Working in professional sports has always been my dream and I feel extremely lucky to have the experience I do. I’m currently working in New York City for a non-profit where I get to talk about running and triathlons all day. Perfect for my friends and fam who do NOT want to talk about those things with me all day.
After completing multiple marathons, half marathons, and other running events, I decided, hey, why not try an Ironman? I mean, I love carb-loading and all…that’s a normal chain of thought, right? So here I am, training for my first 70.3 distance race (Rev3Tri Quassy) in June of 2013 and Ironman (Lake Placid) in July of 2013.
And no, I still don’t have an answer as to why I felt like this was a good idea. However, in addition to chasing this crazy triathlon dream, I’m also trying to raise $20,000+ for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, so at least I have that to distract myself.

Go Team!
A few of my favorite things: running, biking, KU everything, (EV.ER.YTHING.) football, March Madness, yoga pants, apples with peanut butter, college sports*, coffee, the Elvis Duran Show, being places where the beach is easily accessible, and convincing everyone I meet to be a Kansas Jayhawks fan.
*If you don’t have anything nice to say about the Jayhawks, don’t say anything at all
Feel free to leave me a note and tell me about yourself! Thanks again for stopping by!

I love the Iowa picture! I grew up in Minnesota and went to college in Dubuque, so I know what you mean!!!
Ahh I love meeting fellow mid-westerners! I’ve been to Dubuque quite a few times. I’m heading to Iowa tomorrow, I can’t wait!

Hi Kara! Just stumbled upon your blog… I’m also a fellow midwesterner (WI) living in NYC and everybody is surprised to hear that we have electricity and running water (kidding…but seriously, the midwest has such a bad rap!).
Thanks for stopping by!! I love meeting fellow midwesterners out here! And I totally agree, the stereotypes are horrible. No I didn’t live on a farm…yes, we do actually have stoplights in my town…I’ve never been “cow-tipping”…haha! The list goes on and on.
Gaaaah! I’m pretty sure my dream job would be to do ANYTHING for a pro football team. Particularly my Pittsburgh Steelers…I’m moving back there soon {I hope} and am prepared to stalk them if need be!
Nice getting to know about you!
Thanks for visiting, Cherie!
It was always my dream, too! I’ve been very lucky. Networking is key – stalk away! haha!
Hey Kara—I’m a 3x Ironman and I’m planning on Lake Placid ’14! I got my start with TNT in ’08 and what an awesome experience it was! Good Luck with your training! You will be an Ironman the day before your birthday!!
Leslie, hi!! That’s so amazing – congrats on your 3 Ironman events. Good luck with LP in 2014…too bad I won’t see you there this year! Oh and feel free to toss tips my way, haha
Hey Kara–Fill free to shoot any questions you have at me! It will be a great adventure! I can’t express enough that if you do the training. You will have a great race!! The training is the hard part! The race is the amazing part!! Don’t do too much too soon! You will get to the long stuff…don’t worry!! TNT will get you prepared!!
