I’ve become addicted to food delivery services.
I’m not talking about Seamless or Eat 24 (although, yes, I’m addicted to those as well), but any kind of service that delivers food ready to cook – especially ones that make healthy habits more convenient. Brendan and I get a Blue Apron box almost every week and not only is the food real, delicious, and importantly, convenient…but I feel good because we’re actually chopping and dicing and, well, cooking. There’s usually a recipe every week or two that I’m iffy about but I almost always end up loving it and learning something new about cooking. I mean, I made a CALZONE, people. I never knew how you got the stuff INSIDE the calzone. I thought you had to like, inject it in there. (#blondemoments). Letttttt’s just say I’ve never been much of a cook. (Please comment below if you don’t know how and I’ll share my wisdom and will also feel better knowing I’m not the only one who didn’t know.)
Needless to say, ever since I learned about the smoothie delivery service called Green Blender a couple years ago, I was anxiously waiting for it to be available to me. I’m pretty sure they wouldn’t deliver to New Jersey back when I lived there, so they definitely didn’t deliver to California for awhile. When I found out they’re serving the west coast I jumped right on it. Lucky lucky me, the founder, Jenna, offered me a free box to try – complete with ingredients and recipes for 5 smoothies!
Backing up…I’ve have a love/hate relationship with juicing and smoothies. More so actual juicers and blenders. I used to make juice every Sunday and put it in my little mason jars and have something for my commute a few days a week. Cleaning the juicer was such a pain, though. If I tried to use my (horrible) blender, I’d just have huge chunks of leaves instead of actual juice. (Thankfully a friend gave us a great new blender for our wedding and its been perfect!)
My two favorite things about Green Blender:
Convenience. I can actually do this in the morning. I organize the ingredients before I go to bed and can literally take 4 minutes and mix a smoothie before I leave for work. (Having to be at work at 6AM, every second is precious.) You get 5 smoothies in one box – perfect for a work week. I don’t have to plan a single thing, which I loovvveeee. It makes the beginning of my day feel so healthy and sets a great tone for nutrition the rest of the day. (Which totally sounds like something you’d read in a cliche article about getting healthy, I know…but I swear it’s true!)
Variety. In just my first box there were about 7 ingredients I would NEVER have purchased. You know, those ingredients that you see in a recipe online and you’re like, “I don’t even know what that is or where to find it in a grocery store” so you immediately dismiss it? There were plenty of those, and they were delicious. I love trying new foods, especially when I don’t have to make any effort to do so 😉 I also love that the pamphlet they send describes the ingredients and why they’re good for you. I feel smarter.
My only issue is that I usually like drinking smoothies to get in extra greens, and not all the recipes had greens. It totally makes sense for them to send a bunch of different options, including sweeter smoothies…I’d just prefer greens! Maybe someday it will be scalable for the company to allow me to choose from a short menu. I’d be all in! Regardless, this company totally meets its goal of helping people keep up with healthy habits and eliminate that overwhelming feeling you get when you have too many choices. It’s a great reminder that you don’t have to do anything extreme…small day-to-day changes can make a huge difference.
And…because I love you:
What do you think? Do you feel like delivery companies like this could help you maintain healthy habits?
