Kleinfeld Bridal + Family Weekend

After all the hard work I’ve put into training over the past 7 weeks or so, I went ahead and skipped pretty much all my scheduled runs last week (except one). Whoops. Way to go, Kara. But…it was for good reason.

Sorry I cut your faces out, guys.

I had family in town! My mom and friend/Maid of Honor Elie came to New York to help me pick out a wedding dress.

Yep. I said yes.

Yes, they actually asked me if I was “saying yes to the dress”. And I did.

We had planned for weeks to go Kleinfeld Bridal because we thought it would be a unique, fun experience – which it was! I tried on about 6 or 7 dresses and narrowed it down to two (all within the allotted 90 minute appointment!). I tried those two on again and finally made the decision after they brought me out into the big room (see above) and looked in the huge mirror. (You try everything else on inside a little dressing room, unlike on “Say Yes to the Dress” when they walk out in every dress to show their entourage.) I didn’t have the “OMG” emotional moment when I tried my dress on (no tears at all!), but I am absolutely in love with my choice. At first I was wondering if I should have taken more time and gone to more places, but then I figured..what’s the point? I really do think the dress is perfect for me. I’m just a little sad I have to wait another year before I’ll get to see it again. Apparently they order dresses to arrive 8 weeks before the wedding, and then alterations within 6 weeks, which seems SO short to me! But hey, they know what they’re doing, right? The only thing I wish I had known in advance was what undergarments to wear for the appointment. Could have helped me avoid that mortifying aspect of the afternoon :) Annnnd that’s all I’m going to say about that.

For the rest of the weekend, we did a lot of sightseeing and took in a Yankees game.

NYC sightseeing

Please take note of the large cupcake and the beer. That about sums up my weekend. It was fantastic.

I pretty much had zero fitness-related activity from Wednesday through Sunday…but we did do A LOT of walking – my calves were actually sore on Monday morning! It felt really great to get back into it with a Barry’s Bootcamp class Monday night. Nothing like some treadmill sprinting to remind your body what high intensity exercise is like! I was planning a tempo run tonight (Tuesday) but the stupid cold and rainy weather derailed that plan. Instead, I hopped on my bike trainer and got in a quick ride before the Rangers game.

...and homemade guacamole.

…and before eating about a pound of homemade guacamole. For dinner.

I’m starting to get a little nervous that I haven’t been totally following my Brooklyn Half training plan over the past 2 weeks, but I’m crossing my fingers that the speedwork sessions I’ve gotten in at Barry’s at least help…even though it only ends up being 3 miles or so each class. Hopefully I can cross that tempo run off my list tomorrow! I did skip an entire long run though soooo…that’s probably not a good thing. We’ll see how this weekend goes, I guess! As I always say, you just gotta live your life. I wasn’t going to worry the entire weekend about running – I very rarely have visitors from home and I wanted to fully soak it all up for a few days.

Do you try to fit exercise into a vacation or a busy weekend, or are you okay with taking a few rest days?

It looks like you had so much fun! I didn’t realize you only came out in one dress. Thanks for sharing your trip there!

Six weeks does seem short to me too!

I was much more fun than I thought it would be…the fact that I watch the show definitely made it cooler (even though I didn’t think I would care!)

Wow! One stop shop huh? I’ve never shopped for a dress so I don’t really know. I guess when you know you know!! :)
I am sure you will be fine for the 1/2!! Getting in speed work outs are key!!
I usually try and have people come to visit on weekend that I can not work out or have alternative work out plans! You know me! Totally crazy! :) ( I don’t usually have that many visitors so it doesn’t really matter!)

Hahah that’s a GREAT plan! I remember freaking out about Ironman workouts when I was traveling, too. Not good! I don’t usually travel/have visitors so I’m not used to it at all. Really throws me off :)
