HIIII!
I’ve been going going going over the past couple weeks and have really missed writing. So I’m finally back at it, thankfully.
Brendan and I have been in New York working on wedding plans. (!!!) We were really productive, which, hello, we had to be seeing as we currently live about 3,000 miles away. We met with a day-of wedding coordinator and our caterer, checked out the venue again, had engagement photos taken (can’t WAIT to see them!) and I got my makeup trial done, among other things. We went from NYC to Westchester to Long Island to NYC to Westchester to New Jersey to Westchester to NYC. SO MUCH DRIVING. But we had an awesome time and despite all our plans, we were still able to see a few friends…AND we spent a night in our old apartment with our old roommate, Aaron. It felt like home. I’ve missed it so much.
But let’s back up and chat running. The week before we left I had a couple really great runs and I haven’t gotten to share them with you yet. Such a tragedy. Here we go:
# 1) I was so pumped about this 4-miler because my average was much speedier than normal. It was a really perfect early evening run. I had taken a yoga class that morning so I felt really loose.
I wasn’t really planning to run that night because the yoga class I took was fairly challenging and I was kind of ready for a rest day, but I wanted to get closer to my 50-mile January goal. I’m SO GLAD I did. It was one of those runs that had me feeling extremely grateful to be a runner. The music I was listening to was so fitting and I just had so much gratitude for the moment. Gratitude for deciding to lace up my Asics. I kept thinking, “what if I hadn’t gone running tonight?” I would definitely have missed out.
2) The Saturday before I left I ran an 8-miler along the beach that also felt pretty awesome. Well, for the most part. The first 6 miles I was cruising along, listening to a new playlist, and maybe just maybe trying to get a little tan for our engagement photos. The last two miles were a big struggle. I was hot and definitely went out too fast (first mile was the quickest at 9:01) so I crashed. The rest of my splits hovered around 9:15-9:20, but the last mile was 9:59. Whoops.
Still…drumroll…I reached my 50 mile goal for the month of January! 54.9 miles to be exact. I was planning to go for 60 miles in February but it’s now February 11th and I’ve run, ohhh…ZERO miles. NO workouts happened while in New York and when we flew back, Brendan’s brother and his girlfriend (also one of my good friends/bridesmaids!) came back with us for a little vacation. Soooo I’ve been spending time having lots of fun and eating candy and doing no exercise. And it’s been fantastic!
Speaking of which, I still need to share more details on the Palos Verdes trail we found south of LA. Brendan and I went a few weeks ago and loved it so much we made our guests go too. It’s probably the most beautiful place ever. For now, here’s a sneak peek:
Like I said, no regrets. I’ve had a great few weeks! But still, I AM starting to feel the effects of little to no vegetables and lots of wine and beer and eating out in restaurants. Thankfully tonight I finally got back into it with a workout at Poise Fitness, an interval strength/treadmill class in the South Bay. It wasn’t as tough to come back as I thought it would be, thank god. (I was semi-nervous my body might have forgotten how to manage a high heart rate.) Still, I’m not going to try and cram 60 miles into the month…but I’m definitely going to get as close as I can!
Your turn: Tell me about one of your favorite runs!
Great job! Why don’t you make a goal like 30 miles for February and see how far you get?
Why didn’t I think of that! That’s a genius idea. I’ll go for it
It looks like you had a great time in NY and good job with the workouts you did get in :). That beach picture is super beautiful.
Thank you! I did have so much fun. But it feels great to get back into consistent workouts!
I’m BEYOND happy that I got to see you while you were here. Also, don’t you think it’s funny that I’ve now met Brendan’s brother and girlfriend and still have NOT met Brendan!?! Kinda crazy! Congratulations on 50 MILES in January. You’re kicking butt and I’m so proud of you. And those breaks from exercise and vegetables are necessary sometimes. Great attitude about the balance! I’m always so proud of you!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Meeeee too! I wish I had taken a picture of us. Next time! And I know, I can’t believe you haven’t met him yet. RIDICULOUS! Thank you for the sweet words! xoxo
That sunset is amazing and AWESOME job on the 4 miler! I know you can get that sub 4 hr marathon someday!! I hope you’re enjoying wedding planning!! I can’t wait to get back to NYC this fall. There’s just something about that city…
Isn’t it pretty?! I felt so lucky! Thanks for the positive thoughts! Wedding planning is actually pretty fun now – all the tough stuff is basically done so now we’re moving on to the fun things
YES! NYC is so wonderful…ahh miss it.
Sounds like a fun and productive weekend in NYC!!!
Your runs sound great! Sometimes life gets in the way and exercising gets the back seat!! Are you training for something right now?
I’m glad it was “good” life stuff that got in the way I haven’t signed up for anything yet…and I feel lost!! Will let you know as soon as I do!
