Bootcamps and Happy Hours

I did something crazy this morning.

I skipped my long run and went to dance class.

Say WHAT!?

Well, I’m  going to do my long run tomorrow. I can’t remember the last time I ran long on a Sunday instead of a Saturday – I usually like to get a running start on my weekend. (See what I did there?)  As long as I’m done before football, I’ll be good to go. Although honestly, I spend more time looking for Brendan on TV during Jets games these days than watching the game. Rough season!

Having an “Elf” moment. (“SANTA! I know him!!”)

So, I donned some yoga pants instead of my normal Nike tempo shorts, and headed to Lifetime Fitness for one of my favorite classes: Dance Jam.

The first 15 minutes is a warm-up, which basically consists of the same hip-hop-ish moves you would bust out in your bedroom alone or while out dancing with your friends…but instead you’re being guided slightly by someone else; a PHENOMENAL teacher. Then he teaches the packed class a sequence of moves, which we “perform” in two groups at the end of class. Always such a fun workout as long as you don’t take it too seriously!

Backing up…last night, Erin and I met after work and did a quick run up to Central Park, where we then did a little bootcamp. Have I mentioned that Erin is an amazing fitness instructor?! If you’re in NYC and can take one of her classes, you must. She’s one of the most inspirational people I know. (Remember how much butt she kicked at Ragnar ADK?) We did a few sets of burpees, pushups, squat jumps, and lunges, and then ran back to her office where we quickly changed (and applied A LOT of dry shampoo) and headed to a bar to meet Annie (another Ragnar teammate and also from Iowa! Woohoo!) and Beth. Who, I must say, made my life when she said she wants to be from Iowa too. Best thing ever.

Why am I bending down like that? Awkward.

It just so happened we ended up at an Iowa Hawkeye bar…imagine that!

Fight, fight, fight for IOWA!

It was the perfect Friday night with my girlfriends. Exactly what I needed. I may have even busted out the planner I raved about in the bar. Don’t judge.

Now, I just need to gear up for my run tomorrow. In one week I need to show Philly what I’m made of.

*A big CONGRATULATIONS to #TeamRichmond – the group of would-be NYC Marathoners who ran the Richmond Marathon today…especially my girl Ashley who ran a PR-setting, sub-4 race!
