My Workout Date with Harley Pasternak

Guess who I worked out with last night?

HARLEY. PASTERNAK.

Last week I was invited to attend the Fitness Magazine workout with good ‘ol Harley and immediately jumped at the opportunity.

I’m not in the above picture. And I’m a horrible blogger. I didn’t take ANY photos so I’ve resorted to borrowing them from other people.

We started with a “cardio warm-up”, which consisted of running loops around the studio, shuffling, jumping jacks, and fake jumping rope and doing split jumps.

Then, we started some strength sets; skater lunges, triceps, front to back lunges, sit ups, squat jumps, and planks with knee action were all included.

We finished with a cardio cool down similar to the warmup. Single leg hops were on the workout menu, which weren’t so great for my injured-ish legs/hips, but I survived.

Harley was so smiley and sweet, but tough! And he continuously threw out anatomy and physiology terms, which I am a sucker for. Knowledge and sweat at the same time?! YES PLEASE.

A certain girl on the run was even there – Nice to meet you, Ali!

It was a fab workout – I can feel it today for sure. Especially in my weak glutes and weak triceps. I like that he wasn’t just trying to make it as hard as humanly possible, like a lot of the studios do these days-I don’t think that’s an effective method. But, it still took a sincere effort and hit the major muscles in a short amount of time-about 45 minutes. He thoroughly explained the movements andwhy we were doing them, and corrected us if needed. I loved it. And him. THANK YOU for taking the time to do this, Harley!! Much appreciated. Want to train me every day? I thought so. Great!

We came home with this cute little goodie bag!

Yes, the Powerade is empty. I drank it immediately.

Can’t wait to try out my Crunch Fitness 2 week pass! And test out the headphones. And read the book. Maybe all at the same time.

Also, many thanks to Fitness Magazine for hosting this class as a part of their birthday celebration – and finding such an awesome person to lead the workout! They seem to be all over the place these days, especially when it comes to social media and connecting with bloggers, readers and FitFluential people! Such a great way to spread the love for health and wellness, and I appreciate the sentiment so much. It’s great to see a magazine reaching further and doing more to connect with their community. I’ll be celebrating with them next week at the FitBlogNYC conference-another amazing opportunity they’ve graciously afforded me!

I swear, sweet-talking them wasn’t a part of the deal. Just sharing the sweaty love. I love to love.

Anyway, I digress. Happy Birthday, Fitness! Thanks for all the tips and inspiration over the years.

My workout today was a fairly uneventful 5 mile run through Central Park and down the West Side. Slow and steady. Also cold and drizzly. And weird path-ed.

How’s this for random?

On a totally unrelated note, look what finally arrived in the mail!

Handmade with love by my Dad!

Yes, this came in the MAIL. I feel bad for the FedEx guy who had to drag it around. Said FedEx guy did a great job though…not a scratch! Isn’t it amazing? My Dad MADE this. Jewelry box builder extraordinaire! I just have to add the cute little handles and it’s good to go.

Anyone else attending #fitblognyc? Love Harley Pasternak? Go to Crunch Fitness? Let’s work out together!

It’s so useful! I don’t have that much jewelry so I guess I’ll have to buy some to put in there :)
